Jim has been a life-long sailor since his family bought a Sunfish in the early 60’s and sailed on Cape Cod Bay in Massachusetts. He was hooked as they say. His first boat was a 14.2 Capri Sloop which he, his wife Lynn, and son Scott sailed in the intracoastal waterway in North Carolina for several years.

Jim completed the ASA sailing classes of Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Chartering through the Waterways Sailing School in Wilmington, NC and has chartered sailboats in North Carolina, Florida and the Virgin Islands.

Jim has been a Member of the Finger Lakes Chapter since 2007. He is a current member of the Finger Lakes Yatch Club and owns Brewster, a 1995 Hunter 336. He became the Squadron Education Officer in 2017 after serving as its ASEO for several years.

Phil started sailing on Long Island Sound when his Dad got him a sunfish at the age of 8. For years his friends would race their boats off Rye NY, occasionally racing across the sound to Long Island and back… fun times. He then spent a few years working in boatyards before, during, and after college in Greenwich, CT and Buffalo NY, learning the fine arts of bottom scraping and painting, mast rigging and stepping and travel lift operations. He’s done some crewing on the Chesapeake and Lakes Erie and Ontario, and is now sailing SV Harmony, a 28-foot Pearson sloop out of Watkins Glen Marina on Seneca Lake.

Phil spent 32 years working for the State of Delaware in environmental protection positions before moving to Watkins Glen where he is currently the Executive Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County. He and his wife, Judy, live just six blocks up from the marina in Watkins Glen and have three grown children and a corgi, Winston. Look for him on Dock 4.

\"\"Fred and Laurie Seip have been married since December of 1983. They live in Millerton, PA with their granddaughter, Keira, and grandson, Gabriel. Prior to living in Millerton, they were stationed at US Navy commands in Florida and California. Both are graduates of Mansfield University.

Fred has retired from the USNR as a Chief Petty Officer after 5 years of active service and 27 years in the Reserves. He is currently an electrician for Corning Incorporated.

The Seip’s can usually be found on Xanadu, their Hunter 31, at the Village Marina slip 208 (the boat with no name on it). They bought their boat in 2015 in Erie, PA and brought it through the Erie Canal at the beginning of the 2017 season.

Fred and Laurie enjoyed taking the Sail class and look forward to taking more classes soon. They also enjoy the town of Watkins Glen and especially like the homemade ice cream at the Colonial Hotel.

Charlie began boating on Seneca Lake as a young boy. His current “fleet” includes a 23-foot Venture of Newport swing-keel cutter, a 1967 Penn Yan Imperial I/O (under restoration), a 14-foot O’Day Super Swift, and 2 kayaks.

Although he has a nautical heritage – one ancestor was an 19th century whaling captain who logged over 800,000 miles and another was the skipper of one of Seneca Lake’s legendary steamboats, Charlie says “It wasn’t until I joined the Seneca Sail and Power Squadron that I realized how much I didn’t know about boating."
