Andrew grew up in a home sandwiched between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean in Boca Raton, Florida. At the age of 6, his father took him sailing on a sunfish on the ocean and powerboating in an 18-foot Donzi on the Intracoastal. From there, Andrew enjoyed boating, boat maintenance, and working on boats. He has been a mate on a charter sportsfishing boat.

Andrew has owned many small sailboats: US1, Laser, Catalina 14.2, Catalina 22, Oday 272, Telstar 28 as well as several powerboats. He currently owns a Rinker 270EC and a Bayliner E16. Andrew currently boats on the Finger Lakes in upstate New York.

Jim started sailing in 2007 on beautiful Seneca Lake with his wife Susan. They learned a lot that first summer, most importantly how to reef early! Never having been seriously involved with boats led Jim and Sue to conclude they needed to learn and the Power Squadron provided that education along with all of the great boating friends they have made in Watkins Glen. Jim and Sue are both power and sail boat owners and enjoy cruising. They have rented a boat in San Diego and managed to motor it out of the bay and into the Pacific Ocean and back safely.

Jim enjoys taking the classes and giving back as an instructor.
