Charlie began boating on Seneca Lake as a young boy. His divides his boating time beween a 1967 Penn Yan Imperial I/O, a 19-foot Chesapeake Light Craft Southwester Dory he built himself, and two kayaks.

Although he has a nautical heritage – one ancestor was an 19th century whaling captain who logged over 800,000 miles and another was the skipper of several of Seneca Lake’s legendary steamboats, Charlie says “It wasn’t until I joined the America's Boating Club that I realized how much I didn’t know about boating."

Charlie has been a member of the local chapter since 2006 and is one of the club's vessel safety inspectors. He has also taught most of the courses available through America's Boating Club.
